ART GUIDELINES

ART PRODUCTION

FREE ART PRODUCTION: To qualify for free art preparation we need your help. Providing computer art in .CDR, .AI, .EPS or .PDF (vector) is a great way to ensure the speed of production for your sign.

NO COMPUTER ART, NO PROBLEM: If you don't have computer art, let us know the font you used in your design. By simply providing us with a sketch, a piece of letter head, or a business card, Signs of Security will provide free art preparation if we can prepare your art in 30 minutes or less. If your design will take more than 30 minutes to develop, our standard art charge is 75.00 per hour beyond your first free 30 minutes. Estimated art lead times are determined on a case by case basis after you submit your request.

PROOF APPROVAL:

• We generate an art proof on each job, this includes reorders. You have to review and sign the proof prior to production. As soon as you sign the proof we start producing your product.

•When you sign the proof it's the only time you will have to submit changes. Once we have your signature, we immediately go into production.

• We take great pride in our ability to match the product description to the product you receive. Your signature is an agreement and acceptance that we've fulfilled your design request and as long as we do what we do best: making signs to your specification, you will be held to this agreement.

• Art Proofs are generated only after orders are placed.

ACCEPTABLE FILE FORMATS

Preferred art format is Vector
Vector Art: Vector graphics are based on paths or strokes. A vector image can be scaled, colored, distorted and transformed infinitely and never lose its quality, making it the ideal format for logo design and illustrations that will be printed in multiple sizes and/or colors.

Vector art can be generated directly from programs like:
• Adobe Illustrator (file extension can be .ai, .eps, .pdf)
• Corel Draw (file extension can be .cdr, .eps, .pdf)
• Adobe Photoshop, only when file is supplied in layers and layers are paths

Other Acceptable Format: Raster/Bitmap
Raster Images: a raster graphics image, or bitmap, is a dot matrix data structure representing a generally rectangular grid of pixels, or points of color, viewable via a monitor or paper.
Please note, we accept raster files but we will need to re-create raster file as vector art.
This process typically requires from 1 to 2 hours, depending on complexity of art.

FILE SIZE:

1. VECTOR ART: if art submitted is a vector file (ai, cdr, eps, pdf, psd) the size of the file is not important.

2. RASTER ART/BITMAP: If art submitted is a raster/bitmap file (jpg, png, gif, tiff, psd) we require all files to have an original resolution of 300 dpi at 100% scale, for both visual and printing purposes.
Below are examples of both:

ART SUBMISSION

1. FOR ART SUPPLIED IN VECTOR (ai, cdr, eps, pdf, psd):

• All fonts must be converted to outlines or paths. If not, fonts and font name will need to be supplied.
• All placed (linked) images must be embedded. Please ensure they are in a vector format.
• Colors should be specified in PMS numbers. If art contains CMYK or RGB colors, we will select a PMS color that closely matches the colors in your file.

2. FOR ART SUPPLIED IN RASTER (jpg, png, gif, tiff, psd):

• If the image is a simple raster file with no more than 3 colors, we will re-create it as vector art to closely match the image supplied. We will not support drop shadows, complex gradients, special lighting effects and/or metal gradients.
• If the raster image supplied contains multiple colors (and multiple shades of those colors) we will digitally print the image. Please note that when we print digitally a high quality image is required (300 dpi resolution).

PRINTING METHODS:

1. SCREEN PRINTING: Screen Printing is our preferred printing method. It requires all art to be in a vector format (line art). If Raster/Bitmap art is supplied, we will be required to recreate it as vector art. This process typical takes from 1 to 2 hours contingent on the complexity of the design.
(If your design will take more than 30 minutes to develop, our standard art charge is $75.00 per hour beyond your first free 30 minutes. Estimated art lead times are determined on a case by case basis after you submit your request.)

2. DIGITAL PRINTING: We only use this method when art supplied is raster and it contains special effects like multiple gradients, complex shadows, or lighting and multiple colors.
